Sometimes it’s the small steps that carry the greatest meaning.

Our life’s path is never straight – it crosses, turns, gets lost and finds new directions. Yet every trace tells a story of courage, encounters, and passing things on. Our footprints cross and scatter throughout life.

Sometimes we move forward easily, more often we take a step back. But we live and we learn to fulfill our life path. People cross our path. Some stop for a while, walk a bit alongside us, then move on – and a few remain.

We search for our place on this earth when in the beginning we take our very first little steps away from our parents. Then, for most of us, the pace picks up: we discover the world, and the world discovers us. Our footprints become faster and longer, then closer again when others walk beside us and a new togetherness is created. Maybe smaller feet join in – we see lines, circles, because we live as a “we,” protecting and supporting one another.

Sometimes paths separate. Some footprints wander off, others remain and continue the dance alone. We follow paths, leave them again, change direction, return or move far away. And eventually we slow down again.

Maybe there are smaller steps once more, with the mark of a walking stick beside them. Our parents walk with us again – this time we are the ones who protect and support them. And at some point, the circle may close: with our own small, careful steps, while other larger ones accompany us. In the end, our traces in the sand fade away. With luck, a few stories, memories, and values remain – carried on by those who continue after us.

That’s how it should be.

Let’s enjoy our time while we are here – and leave behind traces. Traces of love and of giving, until the circle closes once more.
